What Is The Importance Of The Acid-Alkaline Balance?

Our bodies have an internal pH system, and within that range we need to maintain a slightly alkaline state in order to function and stay alive. This is why my diet programs are always geared towards getting your body into a more alkaline pH level.

Disease and disorders can only grow in an acidic body which is the opposite of alkaline. When your body is in an acid state it makes favorable conditions for bacteria, yeast, fungus, mold, viruses, and any other unwanted organisms to grow including Cancer which always occurs in an overly acidic body!

In an alkaline state, our metabolism, enzymatic processes, immune system, and repair mechanisms function at their absolute best. On the other hand, when we have acid forming foods from high fat and protein sources, this causes stress and inflammation. Our bodies do their best to neutralize the acids by a buffer system which gets its neutralizing power from the alkaline forming foods we eat, so as long as we provide the body with enough of those foods, we are able to keep the homeostasis and balance within our bodies.

The problem occurs when we have an overly acidic diet and not enough alkalizing foods in our system, where the balance gets thrown off and our body has to start taking the minerals that can buffer the acids from our body, cells and bones. This weakens the body, and we actually begin to form extra fat cells just so that we can store the extra acids in them to protect the body and blood from over acidity.

This is why it is so important to take care of our internal system! When your body is in an acid state, there is lack of oxygen to your cells and in your blood and that causes pathogens to grow and prosper.

Many other problems like osteoporosis are acidic problems because as the body becomes more acidic, calcium is depleted and the body will start to take calcium from the bones, teeth, and tissues to make up for the loss.

To correct this imbalance, and to always stay at a healthy alkaline state, we need to eat more foods that have alkalizing effects than those with acidic effects.

An alkaline diet consists of most fruits and vegetables that make your body alkaline. We should be eating about 75% of our foods from an alkaline source, and the rest can be acidic foods in order to maintain this balance. Foods like meats, dairy, and grains make the body acidic.

It is also important to remember that not only foods have an effect on our system when it comes to alkaline and acid balance. Our emotions such as sadness, stress, anger, hate, and loneliness also changes your body chemistry to have an acidic effect, so remember to stay positive!

You can test your pH levels with a urine test or saliva test on litmus paper (you can buy it at a health food store or online) an compare the color on the chart. Our ideal pH level is 7.2-7.4

Once you restore your body to a balanced and slightly alkaline pH you may also lose unwanted fat cells!

Be mindful of what you are putting in your body and always go for BALANCE!
